Straw purchasing firearms is illegal to my knowledge. I recall reading the issue is it’s not prosecuted enough though

It is 100% legal to gift guns to anyone that can legally own them in most states. They have to determine intent in a straw purchase, but also that's not the issue.

The issue is that they are giving someone an item legally and then are arrested because the person they gave it to may use it for a crime
