I'm not against sexy outfits for women in sport, but it should be entirely up to the athlete what they wear. Seems like more often than not, such uniforms are mandatory rather than optional.

Exactly. Athletes should wear whatever they feel will best compliment their performance. The only requirement should be it carries the team colors and logos and their player number.
That’s kind of still an issue area then though. Like if the default uniform is a sexy one, then any girl asking for the modest one is seen as being a troublemaker or causing inconvenience maybe so she feels pressured to go with the flow.
Can't keep everyone happy with everything all the time. Its up to the rest of the team to make people feel comfortable choosing between the two uniform types. If they don't, then thats a shitty team.
as long as what they are wearing does not give them an unfair advantage. Swimming for example has banned some specific materials because they are too good and expensive, which means pay to win
What a dumb world we live in where this has to be an argument. These women are athletes; let them dress like it.
WTF is with the downvote? This is good news, women need to not be objectified just for playing a sport.

Also, why aren't figure skaters wearing helmets? I don't even get off the snow much on my board, but I wear a helmet.
It's a sad but fairly common thing - men's sports is for "looking at sports", women's sport is for "looking at athletes". That's not to say that male athletes aren't also sexualized, but much less and at least there generally performance > looks. Also shows in which companies sponsor what.
Personally I don't care for most sports, but yeah.
I like women's volleyball. It's genuinely better than men's, it's way more dynamic
I'm not going to lie about how my friends convinced me to go initially, but it's one of the few sports I actually find interesting to watch
Genuine question but why are the women more dynamic? I don't watch it or know much about the sport other than the surface level stuff
The men just move around less, their plays are tighter and more rehearsed looking, but I just don't find that very interesting. I don't really care if you can perfectly spike the ball to the optimal place every time and they can recover and do the same until someone messes up the sequence
But women's volleyball is full of movement. It doesn't look rehearsed, the teams look coordinated. They'll pass the ball around while they prepare and then suddenly surge towards the net for a spike/to block the spike
The intensity ebbs and flows, and it's unpredictable when it's going to happen

I'm a dude, but I'll fight for every woman or girl in my life to live like they want to. If the school of my friends daughter tries something like this I'll go there and start a fight. I'd do the same for their son, but I don't have to because having a dick means you can wear comfy clothing.
Jesus, we should really have gotten to the real issues by now, it's nearly 2026 and we ~~humans~~ homo barely sapiens still behave like idiots.

Bloody hell I thought it was a matter of "Girl ain't wanna play with fit clothing" but no. For anyone too lazy to read that, clothes were literally constricting their movement and restricting breathing.
Other than that the "first woman to win in shorts" people talk about is about skort vs shorts which...I don't get. Functionally the same, it seems, so where's the problem in it?
But also all in all can we just go unisex on this shit, without crushing peoples organs?
Also girls feel overly sexualised. Well, we like to look at eye candy in sports, regardless of sex...but again, can we go unisex in clothing, with non-crushing design? Would solve a lot of problems.
I would’ve removed this post if I saw it earlier. It’s an interesting article (that surprisingly hasn’t been posted anywhere else yet) but it documents another problem in our society, not any sort of progress or resolution. I would remove, say, “The fight to release the double-tap boat strike video” even if we didn’t have the toxic politics rule.

getting to main topic - it is not a uplifting news from the title - but from the part - she became the first to sccore in shorts, which to my non sports term understanding ass sounds like skorts (or whatever those skin hugging clothing for respective sport is called) bad and shorts good, is uplifting. So definitely leave it up.
I watch cricket a lot (a bat and ball sport) - and you basically wear what you want - full/half sleaves, sweater or jacket or cap or hat - if it does not hinder your performance it does not matter.
I can see some sports where gear matters - swimming and running sports come to mind where viscous drag from water or air come in effect, and how your gear shapes and how vortex shedding happens and general graglines matter, so like running shoes, it becomes a requirement for performance, but beyond these sports, any clothing should work.
I do know that alot of women sports get viewing purely because a lot men get to see "hot women", and that is definitely bad.
The successful fight is why I posted it here. Sorry to be so controversial with it.

This happens in swimming too. The racing suits that the girls wear (called tech suits) need to be very form-fitting to get the best streamlining in the water. What they don't need, however, is translucent body panels that make the girls look like they are wearing bikinis underneath. It's gotten better in the past couple of seasons where they are offering different patterns and colors of suits. But the problem remains with the basic black suits.
Hmm, i don't know how to feel about this one. On the one hand dress codes are important, but at the same time players shiyld be comfortable in what they wear.
I think a committee that includes players rather than bureacrats should be set up to address these issues

Maybe you should read the article then... the ladies had no issue wearing a uniform, they just want a practical uniform that allows them to perform, not a stripper tease vagina dress
