That's basically what Musk and DOGE were trying to do earlier this year. So yeah that doesn't seem very far fetched.
The transportation secretary, Sean Duffy, has warned that flight reductions could reach 20% if the shutdown persists, and on Sunday he predicted a “substantial” number of people in the US would be unable to celebrate the upcoming holidays with their families if the shutdown wasn’t resolved.

We had Nashville tickets for next week to visit family. We thought about it and decided to cancel it ourselves rather than suffer the delays and certain inconveniences of cancellations beyond our control. I already consider air travel dehumanizing so it was an easy call for me.
Just remember how things were so much worse with Biden, we didn't even have planes, just horses and carriages.
Don't forget about the civil war airports!
