That hasn’t been true for decades. The wildlife that still exists is barely hanging on, and many of those forests are hollowed out from the inside, visible on Google Earth but not from the highway.

Yup. I used to live in Dryden, ON region and the first time I flew out of there heading east was an eye-opener. As you say everything within 100m of the highway was standing, but beyond that it was clear cut.
