If not than it should be as simple as deleting the old partition

So it can be overwritten even if its encrypted?
Yep, unless it's some crazy hardware level encryption, probably not though. Assuming you're not worried about the data and just want to reuse the drive, just delete the partition(s) and reformat it.

Earlier this year I was owed $20 for a data recovery, but instead of paying me, they gave me two 4TB hard drives and a 2TB hard drive, all in perfect working order.
Needless to say, I consider their debt fully paid.
