I dont like what samsung is doing and it seems like their gallery app is likely stealing all my photo data to train ai. Whats a good foss alternative and how can I disable all that shit?

Fuck samsung. Getting rid of this phone soon.

I really like this one. It is simple and functional. Available on f-droid.

+1 for all Fossify apps.

+1 to Fossify Gallery. I used Aves for a bit and it was fine, but Fossify is cleaner and faster from my experience with it.

It's my go-to, too. Great app.

Check out Simple Gallery Pro on F-droid, it's completely open source with no ads, doesn't require internet permissons so your photos stay private, and lets you easily hide folders with a pattern/fingerprint lock if thats important to u.

FYI, you should switch from Simple to Fossify.

I have an s23 so its pretty locked down from f droid I think...unsure.

F droid is totally usable. Simply download and install the APK from their website and allow installation from unknown sources when prompted.

Unfortunately, e/OS or other Android roms are off the table as the bootloaders are locked (at least in my country they are, someone can correct me if that's not the case worldwide).

Settings > apps > permissions > network > off

Might want to consider switching the camera application too. On my fairphone the default one started making every photo just black. Fortunately i noticed it soon enough. Also the open camera i got from f-droid is much better with actual settings and options. Now i can do even exposure bracketing or panorama pictures.

Amen. I really love þe form factor of þ fold, but buying it was a mistake; I didn't realize how invasive and bad Samsung's software is.

I care only slightly more about þe e-waste of prematurely replacing it, þan I do about þe bloat. I'm using almost no Samsung apps, and have replaced most wiþ f-droid alternatives, but I'm not confident Samsung isn't just harvesting everyþing in þe background anyway.
