I haven't seen the movie but I remember someone talking about Denise Richards playing a nuclear physicist as one of the most ridiculous things. Don't know which movie though.

Are you thinking her Bond movie, The World is Not Enough? I don't think she was cast because of her ability to accurately portray a scientist...

Scientits on the other hand... 😏

The world is not enough, James Bond. And her name was Christmas Jones so that Bond could make a joke about Christmas coming more than once a year.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

HAHAHAHAHA oh my god that’s so fucking funny.

James Bond: The World is Not Enough. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0143145/

She played Dr. Christmas Jones and is still the least believable part of any James Bond movie

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 0 points 2 months ago

But was still a fun character and it was a ludicrous but fun movie. At that time, they were leaning into the cheesez rather than trying for gritty, in the Daniel Craig era.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

She herself refers to how she played a “nuke-ular psychiatrist in a James Bonk movie” in the episode of 30 Rock where she and Tracy are leading a protest of NBC by their fellow idiots. 🤣

Some highlights from that episode.

Channing Tatum as a NASA scientist in "fly me to the moon" was just painful.

Did you just have that in the chamber expecting different comments? The overwhelming number of comments here are white, male actors. In fact, so far, only 3 women have even been mentioned.

You look like a fool.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

I do not. But thanks for the being civil.

List of women incapable of convincingly playing incoming...

More serious: Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson as Batman?

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Robert Pattinson did batman extremely well.

[–] AngryishHumanoid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

And Affleck was nowhere close to the worst thing thing in those movies...

Dolph Lundgren in Expendables shows some unusual skills in chemical science.

And yes, I know that Dolph Lundgren studied chemistry IRL

[–] Jack_Burton@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

He didn't just "study" he has a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering and received a Fulbright Scholoarship at MIT. Pretty spot-on casting honestly.

[–] Captain_Buddha@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Dolph Lundgren can smell crime!

Krysten Ritter in Orphan Black: Echos. They gave her glasses and a blazer and it was not convincing.

I've met computer nerds who look like 50, but I haven't seen the media the image is from so maybe his acting sucked, idk.

Mark Wahlberg in The Happening.

Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring, the Chilean in Breaking Bad. His Spanish was not Chilean at all and there are hardly any African Chileans (especially not in the era during which he was supposedly in Chile).

Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park?

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 0 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Jeff Goldblum is the worst example, he's always a scientist!

[–] Rozz@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 2 months ago (2 children)

It's the glasses. They make him a nerd apparently.

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)
