Bummer! Guess they'd better release the Epstein files.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago

Normalize calling them the Trump/Epstein Files

“We tried to be the most transparent in the history of our country, but the radical leftist judges are still looking out for the deep state. Many people say that Barack Hussein Obama, Bill Clinton and many more are in those files”

-Donald Trump -Pam Bondi

Ah, so through these judges, Trump's protecting Obama and Hillary but trying not to let MAGA know. Couldn't be anything else at this point, right? Right?

“A member of the public, appreciating that the Maxwell grand jury materials do not contribute anything to public knowledge, might conclude that the Government’s motion for their unsealing was aimed not at ‘transparency’ but at diversion — aimed not at full disclosure but at the illusion of such,” he wrote.

“Contrary to the Government’s depiction, the Maxwell grand jury testimony is not a matter of significant historical or public interest,” Engelmayer wrote. “Far from it. It consists of garden-variety summary testimony by two law enforcement agents.”

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If they're so boring, why not just release them?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 33 points 3 days ago

Engelmayer, in his decision Monday on the Maxwell-related transcripts, quoted a 1973 legal ruling, which said that “the policy that ‘proceedings before a grand jury shall generally remain secret’ is ‘older than our Nation itself.’ ”

Just so we're all clear on this, Maxwell testified that she never saw Trump do anything "concerning" around her.

We already know this.

That doesn't mean Trump isn't a rapist and a pedophile. We already know that Donald Trump is a rapist and a pedophile, from his own statements. We know he has been credibly accused of raping a 13 year old girl who was tied to a bed for Trump and Epstein to rape. We know that he has been found legally responsible for lying about not raping a different woman. These are facts, and they are not disputable. Trump is a rapist.

This is political theater. Trump wants the grand jury testimony unsealed so that he can point to it and say "see? She says I didn't do nuthin." And Trump's legal team knows they don't have a valid argument to unseal the testimony, so they can point to the judge and say "see? They're hiding the truth from you."

Grand Jury testimony is always sealed, and almost never unsealed. That's because the relevant information is made public during the trial.

The human trafficking rapist didn't find trump's behavior concerning?

Yeah, that doesn't count for too much.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

Maxwell was also charged with multiple counts of perjury for her 2016 deposition. Jus say’n.

Trumpstein Files

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I feel like no one even asked for this and they only suggested it because they knew it would be denied.

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

And because even if it did get released, it would only have info used to get an indictment of Maxwell. Damaging info on clients and associates would not be included.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's exactly the play.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Smoke and mirrors, par for the course.

[–] JoShmoe@ani.social 1 points 3 days ago

The judge in the thumbnail looks suspiciously similar to Ghislaine Maxwell.
