From my understanding, an EU Council position doesn't necessarily mean the legislation will be adopted? This really feels like it'll be the time when it'll be adopted. The worst timeline.

They seem to have a good memory

EU Council position is just one step - it still needs to go through trilogue negotiations with the Parliament (who previously rejected it) and then final approval, so there's still a chance to stop this privacy nightmare if enough MEPs continue to oppose it.
