Thank goodness Ontario scrapped that carbon tax back in April 1st, 2025 with the expressed intent it was to lower the cost of fuels and save consumers money. /s
The action, was intended to reduce inflation and lower the cost of living as it was put.
I guess gas stations did not get the memo and instead pocketed the difference?
I was explicitly told "axing the tax" would make gas essentially free. How and I supposed to take my Freedom-F-150 to costco now?
Well it does depend on who told you this. If a known liar said it and you still believed it, this may be on you.
The rich are upping the fuel costs even without the carbon tax. Pierre Poilievre played Canadians like a fickle!

Feeling pretty good about my EV right now. Costs me about $3.00/100 km, assuming I don't top up for free at work.
If they didn't cost an arm and a dick I would have one but I'm getting 8L/100km in my 2010 compact pickup. Hard to justify the cost and loss of cargo space.
Not sure what the rebate situation is anymore but it got me a cool 14k off the sticker price on mine, allowing me to (thankfully) retain my arm and dick under their current administration.
One of those times it's nice to be a prepper, even if only on a relatively small scale. I bought a couple of months' worth of gasoline last week.
Get some stabilizer too.
I always try to prepare in a way that does not require things like electricity and fuel considering that if you require either for long term survival you are putting yourself on a ticking clock. Things I have in a go bag are some basic tools, some basic supplies like food and water, and a local outdoor survival manual that I purchase when a new addition comes out.
My main reasoning behind having a buffer of gasoline stored (I rotate through it, no need for stabilizer) is so that if something absolutely catastrophic happens I can make it to a relative's farm without having to stop for gas along the way. It also happens to be handy for the less-catastrophic-but-still-annoying situation we might be facing now, of a sudden fuel price spike.
Smart move on the fuel stockpile. For longer emergencies, I've found portable power stations to be a game changer - no fumes, indoor safe, and they last for years. I compared a bunch on gearscouts.com and the LFP battery ones give you the best $/Wh value and way longer lifespan then the older lithium tech.

It is the start of summer. I do not remember a time when gas prices did not raise at this time of year. I could not tell you all the reasons why but this has happened every summer since the 60s when I started driving.
This gets especially bad in years when summer falls on a weekend.
