200k expected. 20k attended. Over 50k protested in DC beforehand. 11M protested nationwide.

Happy Birthday, Dickhead.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 127 points 1 month ago

I attended a No Kings rally in a small suburb that nobody here has probably ever heard of. We easily beat Trump's numbers. LOL

[–] stickly@lemmy.world 83 points 1 month ago (1 children)

20k attended? Damn, they could have just given everybody $2000 and skipped the $40m parade. I'm sure people would have enjoyed it more.

Or just, y’know, fund the VA.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 30 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fund universal healthcare. Doesn’t sit well with me that people willing to kill for a career get any special treatment at all.

[–] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Don't worry Republicans feel the same way and are actively trying to remove that special treatment

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why would we try to help "those losers"

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 month ago

And "suckers" don't forget

[–] match@pawb.social 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Craigslist post didn't bring in enough seatfillers?

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 7 points 1 month ago

I wonder if that was real or not, but I don't wanna stop the fun lol

I only glimpsed it on the news channels on the TVs at the gym yesterday. It's interesting that it was originally hyped as a birthday parade for him, but all the clips on the news were labeling it as a parade to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the army. I guess the birthday parade shit didn't poll well with anybody.

Also pretty hilarious that nobody really celebrates the 250th anniversary of anything.

Do you think he cried a little? I hope he cried a little.

[–] 13igTyme@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

11m? I guess that 3.5% rule is about to be put to the test.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The thing with the 3.5% that most people keep missing, is that it needs to be 3.5% of the population consistently engaged in protest, not just in a one off event.

Where were the DC protests? That sounds like a large number and I know the No Kings protest organizers excluded DC from their planning because they wanted to draw focus away from there. If it was 500k in DC that would have been fairly substantial because that would be larger than the 2017 DC women's march, which was the largest protest since the Vietnam war and was so large it encompassed most of the national mall. You couldn't actually march anywhere because people were shoulder to shoulder.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It was 50k, not 500k. I mistyped and corrected it. The protests in DC were staggered from the morning hours and ended by 4PM in accordance with permits.

Do you think Donny was able to impress his friends?

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 72 points 1 month ago (6 children)

I don't think Donald Trump is a boss. I think he's owned. Like a puppet of organized crime. I kind of wish people would understand how real this world really is and see beyond the talking head puppetry. Getting trump out of the presidency is only like cutting off the finger of the real perpetrators. They are still alive without him.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 33 points 1 month ago (6 children)

The lines between corporate America, the American government, and organized crime are thin to non-existent.

But evidence seems to indicate they do need that puppet to have any power. Although, maybe not anymore.

You are not wrong. But I don't think any of them have that sort of 'charisma' that allowed him to get back into power.

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

He's definitely only a part of a far larger problem, but he's also the face and voice of the MAGA cult. It feels like they've tried a few times too pass on that torch but they're kinda stuck with him now.

[–] yeather@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

Netenyahu is hoping to stir patriotism before the false flag and war with Iran. If Americans don’t want to die in the Middle East it may come down to a draft and things getting messy.

Is that bottom picture really from trump's parade?

[–] ExtraordinaryJoe@lemmy.world 51 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I avoided reading anything about it so this is the first one I've seen. I thought it was fake but I'm glad it didn't look like the top picture.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I dunno. If you're going to do fascist military display at least do it right. This fascism lite crap is all the evil but none of the decorum. He just does everything so shitty.

[–] UnculturedSwine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So it was basically the McDonald's of military parades, got it. What more could you expect from McDonald Trump.

Right? Show me some semi trucks with obviously weiner-shaped missiles. Instead of the type'o dong from NK, ours will be called big stick or something. Mushroom tip is taken by a shadowy conglomerate.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i saw the video on publicfreakout, all the army members in the parade, look so sad.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 66 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I saw the President sitting down and being all frumpy rather than standing on a platform and saluting the troops as they walked by.

collapsed inline media

Scar at least gave good speeches and could sing.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 66 points 1 month ago

Oh yeah, I remember hearing something about a parade, shame it ended up being the same day as all those cool protests 🤔

[–] joel_feila@lemmy.world 54 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You know this going to get under trump's skin

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Why aren't they kicking as high as these guys?

Sir, that's a burlesque play making fun of Nazis.

[–] WhimsicalSadist@lemmy.world 39 points 1 month ago

Poor Cheeto Shitler...

[–] peteyestee@feddit.org 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It just seems like they are trying hard to make life like the past instead of learning to ride the wave of the universe and existence, building and growing off what God/universe provides.

It looked like JROTC compared to parades overseas

It is pretty easy to put on an impressive parade when you have a military of 2 million people and aren't a global power vs the US with 1.3m and have bases all over the globe. Even Russia was able to put on a bigger parade while they were fighting Ukraine and had lost tens of thousands of soldiers.

The parade was pretty paltry, but the fireworks display was very ostentatious. Breaking out the vintage stuff was cool, but lame that they didn't at least put some mock .50s on the half track.

[–] match@pawb.social 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Honestly this shit parade made me realize how our imperialist strategy would make us very vulnerable to any actual war in the US

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I think the difference there is you'd probably notice a ton of troops like, literally gathering for war. You'd have enough time to mobilize and house them. Parades are not important enough to pull that many troops away, and it'd be way more than this one cost.

Now, a civil war... nah, I feel like by the time anyone organized you'd have plenty of troops ready to squash it.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 18 points 1 month ago

About the vintage stuff - they got that from Hollywood costume and props rental houses, and only started organising that last-minute, so they got rinsed on the price.

[–] whostosay@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

They obviously just pocketed the money.
