The California governor said the troops had been left without food or water in federal buildings

Hundreds of National Guard troops deployed to Los Angeles under Donald Trump's orders are reportedly idle and without clear directives, California Gov. Gavin Newsom revealed, calling the situation a political stunt.

The controversy stems from Trump's decision to send 2,000 Guard troops to Los Angeles over the weekend in response to protests against aggressive ICE operations. On Monday, Newsom said he was informed another 2,000 were en route, even though most of the first wave had not been mobilized.

Only about 300 have been actively deployed, while the rest remained in federal buildings "without orders," according to Newsom. The governor said the troops had been left without food or water, and accused the White House of misusing military resources to bolster Trump's image.

Is this state's rights, small government or fiscal responsibility?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I thought it was killing kings.

Whatever, there's gonna be tacos, right?

This little stunt cost $134 million dollars.

Come on TACO Don. Pump those fees up for making us pay $4 for eggs.

And they didn’t even get fed!

The good news is all the National Guard members will lose some Medicaid care to cover it. So. It works out.

Don’t forget the millions for the penis parade. These two events alone are wasting 200 million. Be sure to call your rep and let them know you found negligent government spending.

So if nobody else is in charge of them, Newsom should take command and order them to go back home.

Order them to protect the protestors from the police. Use their crowd control to keep the cops from using tear gas and rubber bullets on peaceful protestors and reporters.

"Shield the protestors from the law."

So...

Time to set up a couple of food trucks, and get some people to talk civics and constitution. Meet some people, make some friends, take the opportunity NOW.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

TACO trucks, even

Hi all, I hope people hear this and the post is not hidden. This is an insecure system, and talking on here about things you want to or will do will be used by the regime.

Please take this as it is meant. I fully appreciate the anger and the pain you are all feeling, and you are totally right to fight, but you must fight smart.

DO NOT LET YOUR ANGER GET THE BEST OF YOU. If this goes the way it's looking like it might, direct fights with whatfever is left of the States' forces is suicide, and the good guys need all the boots on the ground you can muster.

There are many veterans of the war on terror who are literal experts on the tactics needed to win this; seek them out.

Assume all coms are monitored because they are. Look after each other, people.

A friend who knows the score.

Trump got what he wanted. You can be certain that right-wing media will spin this as, "the only reason the troops were idle is that the President's quick action quelled the protests."

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 20 points 4 days ago

Well Trump or Fox's take on the result doesn't matter to me because Trump's going to lie and spin things no matter what happens...

  • Protests stay about the same or increase in intensity: Bringing in the Guard was the right call, look at how this is getting out of control!
  • Protests get less intense: Bringing in the Guard fixed the problem!

The narrative to counter that is that the Guard didn't actually do anything except inflame tensions.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 4 days ago

I hope this informs their decision whether or not to follow illegal, inhuman orders.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 11 points 4 days ago

Interesting how he sent our troops to a fake 'war' with no real plans or preparedness. Just. Like. Putin.

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

...something tells me we don't want them to have orders.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So - just wander around in fatigues? Do a little shopping maybe. Start a pickup game?

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 6 points 4 days ago

Anything that's not "shoot protesters".

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago
