In other words, some Republican senators still want to insert the knife into Caanda, to drain our lifeblood, but they want it done compassionately.

tRump is just a symptom. The USA is and always has been an oligarchy, founded on genocide and grown through slavery, patriarchy and misogyny. The original constitution gave ALL political power to Rich White Males and only superficial changes have been made over the last 250 years, the real power still remains with the oligarchs. tRump has just dropped the mask for the world to see what a fascist shit-stain of a country the U.S. really is at its core. The world (and Canada) will be extremely unwise to ever trust them again no matter which faction of the oligarchy is in power.

When Americans understand what ' recognition and reconciliation policy' is all about, they might also understand where they went wrong with Canadians.

Or just send us your money you would have spent on tourism, since that money is what we really want, not you to come visit.

/s?

Nope. Not in my lifetime.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Lol, this is like the vampire, after you said no, asking, “come on, please let me in? I promise I’ll be good.”

I was grocery shopping yesterday and saw ginger root and wanted some. But then I saw "Made in USA" so moved on. But then there was organic ginger root made in Peru and I got it. Not even sure what the price difference was, at the time I figured it didn't matter if the organic was twice the price, though now I wish I had checked because tariffs might have even cancelled out the organic premium. I'm not even sure what the current status is for Canadian tariffs on US goods.

A few years back, I would have been happy to see ginger root made in USA instead of China. Funny how quickly things can change so much.

Also, any politician who tries to work with these senators to increase Canadian spending on US goods risks affecting their own popularity more than the popularity of US goods here.

U.S. senators urge Canada to ‘give us another chance’

You already had another chance and instead you re-elected the worst president your country had ever had.

Maybe try again once the Trump Regime is gone..Trump And all of his sycophants.

No fucking country in their right mind would give us another chance until then

[–] Binturong@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The fact that they are asking for another chance means they internally acknowledge they fucked up with their unprovoked trade war and assault on our sovereignty. The fact that they won't just say that and apologise means they refuse to learn, so every single interaction with them should result in "Your guy's still that orange dude, huh? Okay come back when you change". They KNOW he's fucking himself and their whole country over, but they expect us to just allow the betrayal.

tl:dr Get fucked US reps, certainly untill you're going to meaningfully stop attacking us.

Edit - phrasing

Maybe if a friendly Congressperson offers to be an escort through customs.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I might, in four years or so, but probably not. There's a segment of Americans that have the memories of goldfish.

[–] Daryl@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

Hopefully, Canadians will have a LONG memory.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Not again in my lifetime. (Presumably a lot longer than 4 years)

I'll be fascinated to see who the R candidate is, and if the election is free and fair at all.

[–] dermanus@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If Trump is in any state to do anything about it, it won't be.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, that's where my money is too. He's ruled out running himself, though, and I believe him just based on him being old and having never been a good fit fit for the actual work of the job.

[–] DMCMNFIBFFF@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

FWIW, unlike there, they elect their senators.

[–] Gtownjim@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

As a Canadian I personally respond What's on your mind their Super Chief because that shits a hard fucking no.
