To become a billionaire you have to be depraved. What behavior were people expecting from someone like that?
Not only do you have to be capable of immoral actions to amass that much wealth, but having power has all sorts of neurological effects.
People who gain power become less capable of empathy. If you gave a "good" person that much money, they would be less able to think about how their actions hurt others.
I'm a bastard and if you gave me that much money I'd probably spend a disturbing chunk within a week get bored and then piss about funding archeologists. But I'm also autistic and think power is for bitches to the point that there's a solid chance I'd ban myself from living off said wealth.
This is why the people we see who are billionaires are depraved.
Before any normal person became that wealthy, they would find ways to spread that wealth.
Fair enough, even my generally frugal old money ancestors didn't hoard wealth like these bastards. They preferred to etch their name in stone by financing the construction of libraries and historical societies, hell one bank rolled the start up for a volunteer fire brigade bank rolled a quarter of their budged for 50 years. I guess that's kinda the key difference between the billionaires and regular folks be they rich or poor normal humans want to do shit and not sit around like a bunch of boring ass dragons.
Yep.
I have often thought that if i got a bunch of money i'd make sure not to move house, quit my job or otherwise change my lifestyle. I'm also neurodivergent and quite devoted to avoiding ever excercising power and to ignoring authority as much as i can.
Realistically I suspect we'd get food delivered multiple times a day.
But of course i don't think me-without-a-billion could ever really know what me-with-a-billion would do.
