US President Donald Trump has commuted the sentence of former investment manager David Gentile, who was just days into a seven-year prison sentence for fraud.

Bureau of Prisons records show that Gentile was released on Wednesday, less than two weeks after he reported to prison.

Gentile, the former chief executive and founder of GPB Capital, was convicted last year in what federal prosecutors described as a multi-year scheme to defraud more than 10,000 investors by misrepresenting the performance of private equity funds.

He's the latest in a string of white-collar criminals whose sentences Trump has commuted.

Gentile was convicted in August last year of securities and wire fraud charges, and sentenced in May. His co-defendant, Jeffry Schneider, was sentenced to six years on the same charges and is due to report to prison in January.

Trump will be known as the most corrupt president in US history… And will likely never see a day in prison. America is a joke

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 14 points 8 hours ago

We are indeed a joke as a country. But this corrupt swine's death will cause the largest mass celebrations we've seen for a death. I'm sure of that. I think about how much I wish he were dead literally every single day.

It's crazy how many examples there are too, and they aren't conspiracy theories, just naked corruption. If you bring this up to a MAGA cultist, they say things like "But Biden was the most corrupt president in history", and then they can't provide a single coherent example. Sad.

So how long are Americans gonna watch Trump make a mockery of justice?

As long as the media keeps telling them he's not. 35%+ of the population has been very successfully brainwashed by right-wing news designed specifically in the aftermath of Watergate to gaslight the public into believing whatever agenda they want.

Nixon was going to be allowed to get away scot free until the media started actually educating the public, who then demanded their politicians do something about it. Fox News was created in the wake of that with the goal of preventing that from happening again.

And with first past the poll voting, the system is designed to inevitably allow a minority to rule. When it was created, only a handful could vote, and being kept up to date on political and economic events was essentially a requirement of their place in the country. Wealthy white land owners were already basicallt required to stay up to date on current events and politics, and the effects of various changes. The voting systems were designed with an educated electorate like that in mind. Those systems have been hijacked as voting rights have expanded and an educated and up-to-date electorate is no longer an fundamental feature of who could vote.

My plan is to talk shit on the internet while watching Americans letting their country burn while expecting other people to come up with solutions for their problems. It will go fine until the US actually burns down and takes down the whole planet with it and most likely the country I live in. Not much else I can do besides that. How about you?

Americans just accepted they are living in a real life mockumentary it seems.

It always so endearing to see how much effort Trump puts into helping the lower class folk. He is just all there for the little people.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 3 points 8 hours ago

Yep, the "little folk" just love to see their felon/rapist/liar leader live it up in a gold mansion.

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 15 points 12 hours ago

Birds of a feather.

We're living through a season of Black Mirror.

I wonder how much a commutation costs these days. I mean, can't be hard to figure out, all you have to do is look at $TRUMP purchases in the days before it was announced. Since the dude reported to prison and days later was busted out, he probably went in, decided "Hello no!" and paid whatever amount of $TRUMP was required to get back out.

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 9 points 13 hours ago

Sure, why even pay money for having a "justice" system at this point? Oh, wait... I forgot about poor people. Right.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Trump is trying to invalidate Biden's pardons, despite that being clearly impossible. If he does pull it off, well, we can invalidate all of his as well.
