The Pentagon’s investigation of Sen. Mark Kelly over a video that urges American troops to defy “illegal orders” has raised a slew of questions, and some criticism, from legal experts.

Some say the Pentagon is misreading military law to go after Kelly as a retired Navy fighter pilot. Others say the Arizona Democrat cannot be prosecuted as a member of Congress. A group of former military prosecutors insists he did nothing wrong.

The Pentagon announced the investigation last week after Donald Trump’s social media post accusing Kelly — and the five other Democratic lawmakers in the video — of sedition “punishable by DEATH.”

The logic in this is so mind numbing. It bothers me to my core that people see this shit and don’t realize why it’s dumb as fuck.

[–] IronBird@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

i'm less worried about it being dumb as fuck, and more worried about why they now feel so comfortable as to openly peddle their bullshit lies via government sites

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Either they themselves are dumb as fuck, or they just don't care because they benefit, because it's hurting the people they hate, or at least the people they're told to hate.

Low education standards and high consumption of propaganda.

Exactly like Hungary, Slovakia, Isreal, and a number of other backsliding Democracies

It's so fucking sad that the website for the presidency is nothing more than Twitter, in more ways than one. There's no professionalism, it garners no respect, it's just laughable. Disgraceful.

idk, there's some solace in them finally taking the masks off atleast.

Even given their horeshit premises that page is comically badly written. I don't even think they used AI, because AI could have done it better.

That page is so YouTube comment section that I start understanding why there is a war on archive.org. The idea that this kind of stuff is going to be visible long after it's deleted must be troubling even to those that post it.

Is that page for our Hour of Hate?

[–] Mynameisallen@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

This might be one of the most batshit insane things I’ve seen in a while

Using OUR White House website to spread their filthy propaganda. I can't wait to see these treasonous PedoCons to be begging and crying when they go up against the wall.

The huge free speech advocates seem to not support freedom of expression it appears.

[–] EvacuateSoul@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Not to mention the speech and debate clause protecting members of congress even more.

If you get into an argument about this nonsense with a Trump supporter you can basically end the conversation with one simple question. "If a Commanding Officer gave the order to take out the president, should a soldier follow it?"

[–] flamiera@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 1 day ago

They can't discern the two anyways.

Investigating him is fine; wasteful but fine.

However, he’s on the record with what he said, and it’s backed by military law.

Once they’ve taken the 1 hour to investigate and come to that conclusion, it SHOULD be time to move on.

For some reason we’re still discussing it over a week later.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 36 points 2 days ago

All the Trump administration had to say is, "Go ahead and disobey illegal orders; we're not issuing any."

Even though it would be a lie, this response just makes it extremely obvious they're issuing illegal orders.

[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If that video was sedition, then so is this post. They're saying the exact same thing.

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

I ain’t clicking that. No way.
