As a city dweller without a car, headphones are part of the essentials when leaving.

✅ Keys

✅ Money

✅ Phone

✅ Headphones

And probably a backpack.

I never leave without a severed human head. It keeps the strangers from talking to you.

I started leaving one bud out when I'm in a public crowded place. You gotta be aware of your surroundings for many reasons, politeness being one

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 9 points 21 hours ago

I'm usually aware of my surroundings even with the headphones. Apparently sometimes more than some people without them. I just remove them when I need to interact with others. If I really needs to hear the crap around me, like when I'm cycling, I use bone conduction headphones.

And if it's so crowded that I need to hear the people around me not to bump in them, then it's too crowded for me to be there in the first place.

I'd encourage you to use one headphone but face that headphone towards people you don't want to talk to. That way you can still hear things around you and kinda tell people to fuck off.

The Sony earbuds I have have an "ambient sound" setting that actively brings in exterior sounds along with whatever you're playing. Depending on the scenario sometimes I'll wear my earbuds to send the "prefer not to interact" signal while not even listening to anything but with the ambient setting on. Yes, it's like listening to the room with extra steps, but with the outward appearance that I'm not listening to anyone around me.

Next month? I got a merry Christmas on Thanksgiving. I was insulted.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 17 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The War on Thanksgiving continues

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 9 points 22 hours ago

The sanctions on Christmas will not be lifted until the illegal occupation of Thanksgiving has ended.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

This is why "Happy Holidays" is a thing.

2 words to cover Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and new years.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

I will not stand for this woke efficiency!

[–] Meron35@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Non-US countries start Christmas literally the day after Halloween.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 2 points 17 hours ago

US started it a couple weeks before Halloween.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

I am joining the war on Christmas against Christmas. Gonna shoot down a jolly fat fuck with my home defense patriot missile system just as the founding fathers intended.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 4 points 20 hours ago

Do you think that this year, to save you from tears, you'll give it to someone special?

[–] ramius345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You still go in the store for your groceries?

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 3 points 17 hours ago
