I miss it... I never knew how much I'd appreciate seeing who down voted me. Occasionally I'd think, 'hmmm this guy with opinions I respect didn't like that? Why?' more often I'd think 'hahaha nazi'

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 7 points 17 hours ago

Mbin is its continuation.

[–] LeapSecond@lemmy.zip 6 points 17 hours ago

You can still see that on https://lemvotes.org/

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 17 points 19 hours ago

Just lemm.ee

[–] jeena@piefed.jeena.net 13 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

Zero, because when I decide to join a fediverse network, first thing I do I set up a single user instance:

[–] fastfinge@rblind.com 7 points 20 hours ago

Same. Although sometimes I set up a public instance, because I'm setting one up for myself anyway, right? And then I have regrets LOL

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 10 points 20 hours ago

thankfully, none

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 10 points 16 hours ago

Two. kbin.social and kbin.run (which was actually an Mbin by the time it vanished).

I remember hearing about it. How big was it, in comparison to the others?

[–] Kierunkowy74@piefed.social 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

For a brief moment it was one of 10 largest Fediverse instances by MAU. I dont't remember now, if it was not larger than even lemmy.world

[–] OpticalMoose@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Wow, that's huge. When Vlemmy went under, it was the 16th largest, so about the size of Feddit.nl or Pawb.social today.

[–] Kierunkowy74@piefed.social 5 points 12 hours ago

Huger than you think: this top 10 included Mastodon instances.

[–] DudeImMacGyver@kbin.earth 2 points 10 hours ago

I liked it, but now there's mbin. I remember it being pretty big though.

An instance can defederate a user? Is that what you're saying?

How would I find out?

[–] OpticalMoose@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

No, I'm talking about instances that just disappeared without a trace. Maybe I'm just unlucky. (or maybe I'm bad luck for instance owners)

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 19 hours ago

Well, that explains why your first link is dead. Thanks for the explanation! I haven't been around this long; db0 is my first instance. I'm not that crazy, I just looked at them and said "damn that's wild, you know what you crazy SOB, I'm in." Like the meme... Futurama? Rick and Morty? Not sure.

[–] MetaStatistical@lemmy.zip 5 points 14 hours ago

I was on lemmy.film.

[–] perishthethought@piefed.social 4 points 17 hours ago

Two: lemm.ee and a PixelFed instance whose name I am blanking on rn.

It's OK, I learned how to migrate and moved to PieFed, so win-win. 👍

I heard about Lemmy.one, but I didn't know Kbin was gone.

[–] johannes@lemmy.jhjacobs.nl 4 points 14 hours ago

None, i selfhost :)

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 12 hours ago

RIP in pepperoni, Yiffit.net

[–] Kierunkowy74@piefed.social 3 points 12 hours ago

geddit.social was technically my first Lemmy instance (although I used /kbin earlier and more than this). Owned by Stux (mstdn.social, pixey.org, gram.social,...) but it was late for lemmy.world-like growth.

trivia: Stux tried also to make a /kbin instance, (along with other prominent Mastodon instance owners. Only Fedia.io, from infosec.exchange survived. Kudos for Jerry). He has called it forum.fail

[–] flamingos@feddit.uk 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Just lemmy.org.uk for me.

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 3 points 17 hours ago

RIP dubvee.org, it was a beautiful dream.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

Iusearch.fyi , too bad, the name was cool
