FIAT failing so hard it gets to fail twice

[–] db2@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Looks like Dodge is in there twice too.

[–] BootLoop@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You mean the Dodge// and the RAM logo? Because RAM was split off into its own brand awhile ago for its trucks. Technically their new pickups are RAM 1500 without any Dodge branding. In practice though people still call them Dodge trucks and they still sell from the same place so nothing has really changed.

Edit: and their work vans. And for North America. Not sure about the global operations.

[–] Hubbubbub@fedia.io 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i worked for an insurance company for a while and you wouldn't believe how many people called in to complain that they couldn't find their trucks in the menu to get a insurance quote. They were looking under "Dodge" of course...

[–] BootLoop@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's funny, probably not for you though. It was a questionable choice by Stellantis so I see the confusion but also if you spent 5-6 figures on a vehicle you should probably know the proper name.

Fail It Again, Tony

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 34 points 1 day ago

At this point in the car industry, the logos and brands are playing musical chairs with one another

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don’t worry. Angry old white guys with maga hats and stickers of a little kid peeing on something, maybe a punisher sticker, will keep ram in business.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Don't forget the sticker of a tattered black and blue flag that may or may not have a swastika in there somewhere.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whichever company owns Chrysler has been flailing around from one financial disaster to another for my whole life, and I ain't that young anymore.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I used to really like their sedans. The 300 was the last good car they made before they were tossed aside by Stellantis to make fucking minivans.

[–] ebc@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

At least they still make minivans, everybody else stopped making them in favour of these ugly-ass "SUV" which are worse in every aspect except towing... There are only 4 options on that market now (well, five if you count the Pacifica separately from the Voyager/Grand Caravan, but it's more of a trim difference, so let's say 4.5)

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

this is what happens when you turn your company into a shadow bank instead of actually selling your work

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 day ago

I feel sorry for opel. They made the most out of what gm gave them, now they're doing the same shit under psa.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is ram really failing? I see those shitty trucks spewing black smog everywhere around here.

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Stellantis had a disastrous 2024. This is mostly a joke as they are still a massive company, but you understand losing 70% of profits in a year is quite the drastic thing for one.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

That's a massive drop for any company, although I suspect the US manufacturing industry isn't doing well in general.

I suspect the main reason is people become far more concerned with reliability and running cost when times are tight, and their vehicles are anything but reliable.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't remember seeing 1 jeep in China, but every mall has a Jeep clothing store.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

And Harley Davidson.

They go hard on branding. They're one of the few motorcycle brands that let you go for a test ride (others might have a special event day at a dealership where you can ride around the parking lot). If you go for it, expect to be suited up in all the Harley leathers by the sales guy. It's not a motorcycle, it's a branded lifestyle where you ride around sometimes.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

They're so big on branding the logo shape is just a preset now. There's a local energy drink that uses their orange shield lol

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

If only literally any other company had that branding. Why does the archetypal American bike have to be some 800 lb monstrosity that's constantly having minor mechanical issues, and impractical for going to work or getting groceries, or going around traffic, that absolutely sucks to pull onto a curb?

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] db2@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

That's their fault for killing the 2.6.

[–] decipher_jeanne@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's sad. Peugeot used to make decent cars. But they have really not done well since dropping diesel.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I've been told my whole life to never buy Peugeot because they can't handle cold climates at all.

Yeah probably. I still drive a 35 yo Peugeot, and it's aging decently well for a 1500€ beater.

But winters in France are mild. Colder area might give issues to the chassis with rust.

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Might be better in hotter climates. They are the road stars in Magreb and Argentina.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

After having owned a few if these brands I decided I'd only own some Japanese, German or Korean cars. Never Italian or French. They are great the first 5 years or so, but age like milk. Owned an Opel and it was pretty good, but I guess it's now off the list. Stellantis is the collection of the worlds least reliable cars.

I drive a 26 year old Skoda (VAG group) which has had not a single major repair, except for timing belts, a clutch, and other consumables.

Some diesel Peogeot and Citroen from early 2000s are still running like a charm with 300k+ km. Depends on the model I guess

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Fiat stands for: Fix It Already Tomorrow

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 7 points 1 day ago

I had a friend whose dad had a little FIAT. He said it stood for Fix It Again Tony, which is obviously a stereotypical slur but also his mechanic was named Tony so it was technically the truth.

[–] SuluBeddu@feddit.it 4 points 1 day ago

The irony is that the T stands for Torino, Turin, the city card are supposedly being built, while FIAT became the italian symbol for offshoring

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meanwhile Renault, also a Stellantis brand, has made 2 Car of the Years back to back.

[–] HenriVolney@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Renault is absolutely not a Stellantis brand. It is its own car company.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 1 points 10 hours ago

I had heard that they had merged, but that was apparently bad info.

[–] UsefulInfoPlz@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Jeep is far from failing. And you’d have to pry my ram truck from my cold dead fingers.

[–] A7thStone@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

Don't worry, your RAM will die long before you do.

[–] SSUPII@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Your car is not gonna vanish, but Stellantis had a disastrous 2024. It is a conglomerate, so if the top fails every company under it does too.

[–] UsefulInfoPlz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah the former ceo was definitely a bad choice.

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Didn't Jeep just roll out a software update that was bricking 4xe models recently? Also quality has been plummeting (rust, death wobble, garbage 3.6L, etc) for years. They also just did a recall for over 100k hybrid models for fire risks
