Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Let everyone have their own content.

Ah yes. Classic "Everyone deserves a fair trial, until I think they've done a bad enough crime, in which case I'll activately cheer for that right being taken away".

Vigilante justice is NEVER acceptable. Until someone has been justly tried, and convicted they innocent in the eyes of the law. Period, and no exception.

You people cheering this on, and encouraging have on your hands the blood of every single innocent person who was ever killed or assaulted by a vigilante.

Got any dead kids? No? Then kindly STFU until you've experienced such pain. Yes, I am qualified to speak on this subject you lucky SOB.

So you're saying the victim of a crime should get to act as judge jury and executioner ?

Like I'm sorry you had to go through that, but how would you feel it your child was falsely accused of murder, and then revenge killed by a family member of a victim at trial.

There's a reason we don't allow vigilante justice.

Yes, the bastard who assaulted her child deserved death.

No, you can't take justice into your own hands, because vigilante justice means the negation of all civilizational achievements and the rule of law.

The law is fake. Justice is fake. These are ideas pushed on us to maintain the monopoly on violence of the state

More and more, I become convinced in the law of consequences. I think, morally and pragmatically, that her actions were reasonable and a net benefit to society. I think most people would agree with that on some level

At some point you have to ask... What's the value of the law? Why defend it in this case?

Explicit rules are nice to tell people what they can get away with. On a deeper level, we have to decide what's right and wrong as a society.

And that's a blurry line no one should be getting near

To anyone downvoting me:

You rightly despise the perpetrator and his actions, but if you advocate vigilante justice, you are showing just as little respect for the law and all the rules of human coexistence as he did. You should all be ashamed.
