Rep. MTG announces resignation a couple days after becoming eligible for her Congressional pension, after making millions through illegal stock trades. FTFY.

[–] ultranaut@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She also became the subject of death threats from MAGA cultists. Being on the other side of things could be intimidating enough to motivate a career change now that she is rich enough to do whatever.

[–] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 4 points 1 week ago

Rich enough to do whatever means two things in MTG's case:

  1. funnel her ill-gotten wealth to other Republican candidates with "clean" records (i.e. no spats with the Dear Leader).
  2. provide the GOP with a face of remorse that inattentive (dipshit) audiences can sympathize with.

Both are ploys to continue robbing and pillaging America for the rich by hoodwinking the gullible.

Wrong. Her stock trades were entirely legal since insider trading isn't illegal for Congress members.

Wait seriously? Did she actually get her pension a couple of days ago?

[–] wagesj45@fedia.io 8 points 1 week ago

My understanding is that she becomes eligible for the pension on January 3rd, two days before her January 5th resignation. I didn't fact check that, but that's my interpretation from the context of the statements.

mostly due to the death threats, plus the gop and trump balked at her running for senate, so they wernt going to support her either way. boeboe on the other hand which was equally loud has kept quiet, smart in a way to not recieve the same thing mtg faced.

She's been doing a rehabilitation slash apology tour. Going on air with CNN and the show The View.

Toning down the crazy, amping up the support of survivors, calling out hypocritical actions and words in her party. She's been saying things like "I follow Jesus, not DjT/maga/Q/whatever"

She's been getting tons of absolute critics saying, "I can't believe I agree with MTG!"

She's plotting something and needs the middle and rational to see her as viable for whatever it is.

She's savvy. Maybe she's a true believer in Q, maybe not. But I'd bet a shiny nickel she's doing all this for a reason. And not because she's afraid for her life. She has a plan in motion.

You have maybe changed my mind. I figured a credible enough threat made it to her doorstep. But you're right, she's been playing rehab for some time now.

I don't think she's stupid, that's just acting the role she's chosen. Don't think she's super smart either, but she's wily as a fox.

But whatever political rehabilitation she has planned, doesn't she have enough history to poison the meal?

when trump snubbed her on senate run endorsement, she saw know future with the current state of the gop. she might come back and run for senate in 26 or 28, or even later. plus the epstein files, which likely already saw would blow up in her face if she continued to support trump.

I wish they'd resign from the planet.

In a fireworks style for our enjoyment.

Jesus Christ seriously? Man I was just starting to think she could maybe do something marginally positive. Jokes on me for thinking one of the worst people in the world wouldn’t disappoint me.

In her statement on Friday night, Greene wrote, “I ... do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”

She still wants Republicans to win the midterms. MTG and people like her will never have a redemption arc, nor do they deserve one. Not by happenstance, nor by choice.

Yeah. Just awful people across the board.
