Venezuela announced Tuesday that it was launching a massive military exercise across the country, reportedly involving some 200,000 forces, in response to the increasing presence of U.S. military assets in the region.

The announcement by Venezuela's military came as the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford had entered the Southern Command's area of responsibility — which includes the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, they are at the moment one of the few relatively unbiased outlets that don't have a paywall. The new editor-in-chief hasn't changed that yet.

It's amazing how the US has single-handedly had its fair share being the stupid ass country to always be starting conflicts in other countries. Just look back at the history. Mexico, Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Middle East, and now Venezuela? Seriously? Anybody want to connect the dots for me here?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 25 points 1 day ago

I mean, it's imperialism. They want other people's shit, which sometimes requires the military to force other people to give them their shit.

Yes, the dots is freedom. We shot, dropped, and riddled those countries with freedom. We gave them so much freedom that we're starting to run out of freedom here.

Once someone finds resources of value here, they'll probably come pepper us with a boost of freedom.

Something something, capitalism innovates and Integrates technology … something something, a “one-dimensional” society … something something, gadgets keep people docile … something something, technology serving corporate/military power … something something, higher military spending driving technological innovation … something something, capitalist accumulation requires expanding markets/resources … something something, military power instrumentalized to secure economic advantage globally … something something, technological/ military capacity dominate others … something something, cycles of innovation, capitalization and domination continue while underlying imperatives unchallenged.

This is it. The US has Guyana's oil locked into deals and it resulted in them becoming one of the highest GDP growths in the world recently. Venezuela is not playing game like they did and so here we are, especially due to Venezuela's proximity to Guyana. This is all oil money bullshit all over again

Edit: to add to this, Venezuela has made some aggressive rhetoric towards Guyana. This is further fuel (no pun intended) to protect the US profits and give reason to expand towards Venezuela

A large donation to his Presidential Library would probably settle the entire conflict
