Subtlety for sure. The scratch in the back of the mind. The shadow in the corner. What is familiar but wrong, somehow, is worse than blood and guts. The closest to that kind of horror is a war movie.

Subtle. I loved The Grudge, which to be fair, isn't incredibly subtle, but it has so many great ways to be creepy!
