This is what evil looks like. It's frankly terrifying how quickly the United States is succumbing to authoritarianism. The building blocks were there, the signs were on the wall that it could happen. But to see ice becoming the paramilitary enforcement wing of maga is truly frightening. They operate without oversight, without fear, and without legal repercussions.

If we can get through Trump we have so much reform to just get back to baseline that I'm not sure it's even possible.

I say this as someone from the overseas (for the context): from here it looks like you are living in a fascist takeover. I can't say what you can or should do about it - what do I know. But you have a dictator in the making, your court system looks to be failing in preventing anything, you even have the fucking gestapo now. Your vulnerable groups are already either being taken or basically being prepared to be taken. Scientists and researchers are leaving. It's only a matter of time when they start coming for dissidents...

Maybe I am wrong, I hope I am wrong - and again what do I know, basically nothing. But it is looking bad

I'm certain that these jobs are attracting sociopaths who literally want to use their positions of power to harm people. It was bad enough with regular cops but with ICE flaunting their disregard for the law the monsters are coming out in droves. Terrifying.

Anyway, this article has convinced me to start carrying my passport as a vaguely Latino looking person with a Spanish last name in Texas. (I am Filipino American lol.)

I doubt that will help you. So easy to throw that passport away, claim you stole it, or it is fake. Do it anyway, but don't expect it will help.

Yeah, I know, I had the same thought: it's not actually about documents so documents won't stop them if they want to take you. There's already a story out of Florida where ICE refused to release a citizen even after he produced a birth certificate and a judge dismissed the case against him.

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.

This is what we're all voting for with every passing moment on our asses.
