It amazes me how recent these things are although its why I point to the 70's as sorta the height of our society and someone will say, hey, things were not that great then. Thing is that you can see progress happening over the decades but once I look at the 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, 20's I see the pace of progress slowing, then stopping, and now reversing.

Yes. All done through complete control of the media. And now it's so complete, we're doing it to ourselves.
I think legacy media would be doing better to if they restricted ownership to only one for a local area. All of a sudden not having one would limit what one company could influence and many would want to have one in most major markets even if it was a loss leader.
Indeed, that's exactly the kind of thing Regan was about destroying when he removed the fairness doctrine policy and began the attacks on the FCC that resulted in widespread deregulation and media conglomeration. Our FCC now is a joke. As was their intent.
yeah that is kinda what I meant. if they had maintained the regulation then the industry would have been healthier and companies would grab what they can because they had such a limited reach. The internet would still be an issue but I think it would have made the difference such that these entities kept going.
