I lived in Haiti for three years. When I returned, I went to the doctor and got dewormed right away (intestinal parasites). Later in the week, I went to reapply for national health coverage. I showed them my SIN. They said, okay, you're back on. I told them about the earlier doctor's visit. They said no problem, and backdated the coverage. I really took our national health plan for granted until I lived in a country without. It's an awesome thing.
