Seems like the dudes in favor of the death penalty seem to be the usual suspects... And then there's Japan, who straight up went

the Japanese state doesn't want to ban the death penalty for the same reason why it celebrates the genocides it committed against its neighbors. it's a very useful tool to keep people passive against its abuses
fun fact: the japanese death row inmates only get 1-2 hours notice of their execution. They wake up every morning not knowing if today is the day they die. I think that'd be so torturous.
sounds very similar to the American system
