My favorite joke about this is:
I've never in my adult life crapped my pants. But I pack like I'm going to crap my pants multiple times a day every day.
The risk of multiple pairs of pants encountering a problem on the trip is low, but my ability to do something about it is much more hindered than when I'm at home, so better be ready in case it does happen.
