I don't agree with the guy, but it is worth noting that there are around 21k ICE agents, vs 3.8 million teachers.
That extra funding would probably spread a little thin when you're sharing it with over 100x the number of people.
This is correct in the literal sense but it misses the spirit of the argument.
They are showing where they are willing to spend money. And it's not to anything that would actually help people.
It's extremely easy to calculate out. The low end accounting just for personnel in the BBB is 48,500 million dollars per year / 3.8 million teachers results in $12,768/year per teacher.
Now how much is that per year per teacher for the full 75 billion dollars?
I couldn't source the 48.5 billion for personnel number. I'm seeing a total budget increase for ICE to 30 billion. But still a large number for sure. But that's total budget, not just personnel.
But look, I agree with the sentiment. I'd rather this money be spent on teachers too. I'm just not convinced that the numbers, as presented in the meme, are meaningful.
Total allocated for 2025-2026 is 170 billion when including the additional 75B allocated by the BBB. 91.6B of which is for the border wall and concentration camps.
Disbanding ICE entirely would be 21k per teacher per year.
I did get my 45B second hand, and I'm not sure where the extra 15B came from tbh, and it seems like it might've swapped the personnel and facility portions. Going to the source; the actual bill, page 904 allocates:
So if you think 8k per teacher per year is chump change, let me know where to send the bill as that is my hourly rate which you now owe me.
