This is part of how Trump's flood the zone strategy causes people to give up and tune out. It's not just that he called his own legitimate criminal investigations political corruption, it's that he's calling real political corruption legitimate.
Under Trump: Right is wrong (prosecuting insurrection), being good is bad ("woke"), friends are foes (Europe, Canada, Mexico), foes are friends (Putin), spending more is saving money (tariffs), anti-fascism is fascism (Antifa), and so on.
What Trump is doing is systematically disconnecting us from reality, because with no objective reference, he can dictate reality.
The very fact that this story isn't surprising and will neither get significant or persistent coverage is proof we're deep into this hypernormalization.
There’s nothing “New“ about this. This is Fascism 101. Deny the accusation and then blame your accuser of the same thing.
It is definitely part of the Steve Bannon strategy of “flood the zone with shit“. Just like his threat to sue AOC into bankruptcy over her, very legal remark, calling Trump, a rapist. Because he is, and he has been adjudicated as such.
This is an elaborate form of gaslighting. Trump‘s goal is not to undermine the common concept of fact and reality. That’s what Hitler did, but Hitler had a plan. Trump is both demented and extremely stupid. He’s not trying to rewrite our reality, he’s just trying to reconcile his own twisted concept of reality with actual reality. Poorly. There are similarly destructive consequences, but understanding the root of the problem is crucial to remedying it.
We all realized this in 2015, before he was elected the first time. The only way to stop it is to kill him. And then, unless anyone actually does that, we are all going to suffer the consequences.
This isn't new at all, Bush and his cronies were doing this 20 years ago

Here is the key quote from an anonymous aide, widely believed to be Karl Rove
You're giving this fat, inept piece of shit too much credit.
Not Trump himself, he's just the populist leader, to grab public support for whatever ghoulish thing the regime is doing at the time. The strategy is coming from Bannon, Stephen Miller, Howard Lutnick, Russ Vought (P2025 architect and OMB Director), Kevin Roberts (Heritage Foundation president), and a few others.
What makes you think he’s in charge of the plan?
I was responding to OP, who insinuated that he's in charge?
The op is claiming so.
It was honestly just loose wording to refer to Trump's administration - I agree it's Stephen Miller and Bannon who are consciously acting "systematically."
That said, Trump is a once-in-a-generation exemplar of sociopathic narcissism, and the techniques used track nicely to limit-pushing narcissistic manipulation, constantly gaslighting to control reality of his victims (I.e. everyone?). So I'd argue Trump is unconsciously systematic in his approach.
A line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

Those MAGAts really are a great parallel for the Borg, other than the fact that the Borg dealt in actual knowledge and not made up bullshit.
The Borg have kept their foreign policy commitment of trying to assimilate the Alpha Quadrant
You are oh so right but i wish you were wrong.
